In May of 2010 Allison Aubrey contacted me to discuss the opportunity to DJ their wedding at Steele Canyon Country Club. She had “met me” at the Santee Street Fair which I had been at a week or so before her contact. I put the “met me” in quotes because from what she told me, she actually just observed me, grabbed my flyer, and kept going without actually talking to me! She later went to my website, placed a quote request, and we arranged to meet at Starbucks in Santee. After a great meeting where we discussed ideas for both her ceremony and reception, I offered her a chance to go home and think about it. To my surprise, she insisted on booking right then! She booked the date, checked the task off of her ‘to do’ list, and we parted ways for a while.
Allison and Shaun Johnson were married at the Sunset Deck, also located at Steele Canyon. Their ceremony music was actually pretty unique.
Prelude (Seating): Saint-Saens _ The Swan ( Le Cygne ) – Carnival of the Animals, Pride and Prejudice (Soundtrack) – Dawn, Bach – Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major
Processional: Soundtrack – Pride and Prejudice – Mrs. Darcy, Israel Kamakawiwo’ole – Somewhere Over The Rainbow
Bridal March: Vitamin String Quartet – All You Need Is Love (Beatles)
Recessional: Jason Mraz – I’m Yours

After the recessional, Allison and Shaun got into a golf cart for their exit while guests went into the Pavilion to enjoy cocktail hour.
As usual, I had my system set up very cleanly. I made special effort to conceal every cable I could.
Even the lighting was very clean looking, as I tried an alternative style to my usual lighting.
Grand Entrance song: I Gotta Feeling – Black Eyed Peas
Right after their grand entrance, and another enthusiastic round of applause, I instructed the guests to be seated and Shaun and Allison began their first dance.
First Dance: Tim McGraw – My Best Friend
After the first dance we began a buffet dinner. Guests went into Steele Canyon’s restaurant, Canyon Grill, where a buffet was tastefully laid out for them.
During dinner, guests got to enjoy the iTouch photobooth.
Following dinner and the making of their rounds, we began toasts. Here’s a few pictures taken during the toasts.
Allison and Shaun then thanked their guests for coming.
After toasts, we began formal parent dances.
Father Daughter Dance: Tim McGraw – My Little Girl
Mother Son Dance: Rascal Flatts – My Wish
We then started a Honeymoon Dance, which went quite well.
After the Honeymoon Dance, we got into a round of open dancing. The guests were a lot of fun, and I had guests of all ages on the dancefloor almost all night.
After a while we took a break for some more activities.
Cake Cutting: James Taylor – How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved Be Loved By You)

Garter Toss: Roy Orbison – Pretty Woman, Village People – Macho Man
Bouquet Toss: Cyndi Lauper – Girls Just Want To Have Fun
We then opened the dance floor back up and got back into the groove.
It’s worth mentioning that there was a surprise performance by the bridal party to Queen – Bohemian Rhapsody:
We closed the night with a last dance with all couples on the dance floor.
Last Song: Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes – (I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life
And then Allison and Shaun did a Grand Exit into their waiting limousine!
… but not before I was able to get a picture with the happy bride and groom!
Congratulations to the Johnsons and their families, and thanks to both for giving me the opportunity to be a part of your special night!
If anyone at the wedding would like to leave a review, please do so at http://www.insiderpages.com/b/15253916392/the-creative-music-dj-san-diego. I’ve just created the account and would love to get some reviews on there. Thanks!
Update: A while back Allison posted a review on Insiderpages (at http://www.insiderpages.com/b/15253916392/the-creative-music-dj-san-diego) and it was great! I’ve pasted it here for those viewing this post.
I hired Dennis to DJ my wedding in January 2011. I could not tell you enough about how wonderful he was and how many compliments I received about the music played at the wedding. He used his many years of experience to create an event that will stick in mine and my guests’ memories for a while. Dennis was knowledgeable about all types of music and really mixed it up for guests of all ages. He even got my 82 year old grandmother out on the dance floor for a couple songs!
Even though I didn’t find him at the many Bridal Bazaars I attended during the planning process, I feel that he did a much better job and was more affordable than any DJ I would have found there. From booking to day of, Dennis made it easy and stress-free, and as a busy bride, that is something worth every penny spent.
