We were contacted months ago to assist with Spirits at Liberty Station, a fundraiser to help raise money for Liberty School, while giving ‘up and coming san diego talent’ a venue to perform in. Preparation included nights of visiting the venue and consulting the event coordinators in methods of lighting the large venue.
Setup was smooth yet lengthy, since not only were we setting up our sound system and lights, we were also supplying lighting for the courtyard outside, and the halls. Being that it was a fundraiser, we took the opportunity to proudly display our newest Creative Music DJs banner.

For such a special occasion, I broke out my new white Serato vinyls. For those that know the DJ scene, white vinyl is hard to obtain and shows the mark of a true DJ. Even those that don’t know the DJ scene can appreciate white vinyl though, it has a nice unique look, as was evident by the multitude of photographers that kept coming over to the booth to take photos of the equipment and vinyl. If you know one of these photographers, please get them in contact with us, we’d love to see the photos!

Admittedly, it was a bit strange to play high-energy music without dancing. I started the set with some house and party rocking instrumental electro, but after an hour started into some bmore and electro remix which the guests responded to well. A few requests started coming at me and I was happy to oblige. I found that the crowd was particular to remixed rock so I mixed a lot of that in between some top 40 and house tracks. Some tracks that surprised the guests and got conversation started were remixes of an Aladdin soundtrack song, and a Willy Wonka remix which people came over and asked about continuously as it played.
Several times throughout the night people came up and asked me where I normally played at, and where they could come enjoy my mixing while they were able to dance. Many were surprised when I told them I mostly work as a San Diego wedding DJ. Of course, I wouldn’t be opposed to a Friday night residency at a local club as long as the pay was decent, but for now my weekends are devoted to brides and grooms and making their night as special as possible.
For the last track of the night I played Black Eyed Peas – I Gotta Feeling, which received smiles all around. When the song finished, there was a round of applause as one guest stated loud for everyone to hear, “It’s not gonna be a good night, you just made it a GREAT night!”
