Are Technics 1200s really being discontinued?

Technics 1200 - The true DJ's weapon of choice!

While chatting on forums, I came across a thread with a conversation about the discontinuation of the legendary Technics 1200s turntables.

If you search around the Internet about this subject, you’ll notice many reputable websites talking about quotes from Panasonic that state that there will not be a discontinuation. Quotes from Panasonic such as

“As a major global business, Panasonic keeps all of its operations under constant review. However, there are no current plans to discontinue the Technics brand and the production of Technics turntables.”

However, while chatting, one individual stated that he had just called Panasonic and was told directly that they were in fact being discontinued! He even stated the number he called: 1-800-405-0652.

Can this really be true? Is DJing as we know it going to die? I can’t believe it! Those of us who continue to embrace turntables and vinyl and the art of creative DJing are a dying breed as it is. Heck, I’m one of the only Wedding DJs in San Diego to still rock the party with a pair of Technic 1200 turntables!
