Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel Hollywood-Themed Corporate Party DJ

Client:Eventive Group (Mark Lorimer)
Venue:Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel
Corporation:Gynecologic Oncology Group
Event:86th Semi-Annual Meeting

A new year, and another fun welcoming party at the semi-annual meeting for the Gynecologic Oncology Group. Eventive Group has been faithfully contacting me to DJ these events ever since they first contracted me 2 years ago. Each one has a theme to it, and they really go the extra mile to make that theme count. For instance, here’s some photos from the GOG meeting in 2011, where the theme was Mardi Gras.

And a post-event photo with my client, Mark, in 2011.

Gynecologic Oncology Group 86th Semi-Annual Meeting

Mark from Eventive contacted me again to DJ GOG’s 2013 event, with an interesting twist– The theme for this year was vintage Hollywood. Conversing with Mark further, I found that there were looking for music from soundtracks of Hollywood classic movies from the 30s to the 60s. Always up for a challenge, this actually made me even more excited to work with Mark again.

The props were impressive for this event. Here’s a panorama of the decorations with my DJ table on the right side. Click on the photo to see much more detail.

Wireless Speaker

For this event, it didn’t make sense to have both of my speakers next to my DJ table. The first 2 hours were composed completely of movie soundtrack music, so it was more important to have even coverage of sound throughout the room. To ensure this, I put one of my speakers on the other side of the room and used my wireless system to transmit the sound over to that speaker.

My setup was clean, as usual.

During the event, I played a multitude of songs from soundtracks of classic movies, as requested. For those that are wondering, some of the song selections were:

Dooley Wilson – As Time Goes By
Cliff Edwards – When You Wish Upon A Star
Gene Kelly – Singing In The Rain
Emile de Becque – Some Enchanted Evening
Frank Sinatra – It’s The Same Old Dream
Chet Baker – There Will Never Be Another You
Ella Fitzgerald – Tea For Two
Four Aces With Al Alberts – Three Coins In The Fountain
Debbie Reynolds – Tammy

There was also a Marilyn Monroe lookalike at the event so I played a lot of Marilyn Monroe upbeat songs.

Post-Event

After another great event with Mark Lorimer, we posed in front of the beautiful Hollywood letters and took a couple photos together. I had my vintage Hollywood attire on, an old-school pinstriped suit!

Afterwards, Mark said to mark my calendar for 2014 because he had gotten great feedback again. Thanks, Mark, for trusting in Dennis Jones, The Creative Music DJ to take care of your event, no matter what crazy theme you throw at me! See you in 2014.

fter a while, the kids got a bit tired out, and it was time for the adults to dance. Being that this crowd was primarily Irish, we worked in some Irish music, including popular artists such as U2 and House of Pain. At one point, we were asked if we had any traditional Irish music. We suggested a compromise-- We'd throw on a traditional Irish jig, if the Irish guests promised to dance an Irish step to it. They agreed, and we had a blast playing traditional Irish and watching the guests enjoying their native dances!
