Earlier this year, I had a booth at the Santee Street Fair. During the event, I met hundreds of people while showing the masses what I do, how I do it, and how it makes me unique in the San Diego world of professional event industry entertainers. A day or so after the Fair, Debi contacted me to inquire about North Island Snowdrifters Ski Club‘s Halloween party. She stated she had been impressed by my energy and music selections, and was looking for a new quality DJ to use for their Ski Club events.

We made an appointment to meet at her house (the location of the party), and while there went over details such as set up location, where other things would be, and how best to complement the rest of the event. After a successful meeting, Debi booked me for their party on October 30th, 2010.

Although there were few formal events, there was a lot of dancing. As a professional DJ, my job is read crowds, and this particular group were a delight to keep dancing. Due to the age of the guests (most were over 40), I rarely played a song made after the 80s, and managed to keep people on the dance floor at all times.

As with most Halloween parties, there is always a break in the action to perform a halloween costume contest, and Debi and Tim gave me a break head downstairs and grab some food and drink, but I did manage a picture before I took my break. Here’s a picture of the “Three Amigos” accepting their award. And yes, they were coaxed into doing the “Three Amigos Dance” also.

This was at the end of the party, Debi had missed the original time I played Electric Slide and asked that I play it again so she could enjoy it!

After the party, Tim and I hung out for a bit and he showed me some of the Halloween decorations that were at the party. Apparently Debi has been collecting Halloween stuff for years and had some pretty impressive Halloween stuff!

The Tree of Knowledge. This one takes a bit of explanation… When guests arrived in pairs, they were given two coins, and a ticket. They had to tear the ticket in half, and the person with the smaller half went to “JAIL”. You can see the jail in the door behind Tim.

After their partner was sent to jail, the other person was given a choice– Bail out their partner (cost=2 coins), or spend their coins on other things. For instance, they could get an answer from the Tree of Knowledge for one coin…

Or a kiss from the Kisses Booth for a coin…

I believe there were other things to spend the coins on, but I can’t remember them now.

If someone spent their coins, they had an opportunity to earn more coins by riding the rocking horse around a track. However, the horse was difficult to ride, the wheels were purposely tweaked to barely turn… it took a lot of effort to get all the way across the room and back!

Inside the garage, there was an authentic shock therapy kit attached to a Frankenstein. This was a real kit used back in the day to ‘cure’ people.

There was also the original instruction manual showing how to apply the cures. Fascinating stuff. I kept this one at original resolution so you can read the cures. Click on the picture to see full size.

I normally get a post-event shot with my clients, but they got ready to go to the pool and weren’t really in attire proper for pictures, so I passed on the opportunity. However, the event was a huge success, and Debi as well as others have stated that they plan to use me for their future events.

Thanks to Debi and Tim, and the whole North Island Snowdrifters Ski Club. I had a great time!
