In March of 2011, Crystal Mcphee contacted me to DJ her wedding. Her fiancee was Bryan Spangler, son of the famous stuntman Spanky Spangler, and a practicing stuntman himself from what I understand. They were having their wedding at The Catamaran Resort Hotel. The Catamaran is a nice hotel located in the Mission Beach area. It hosts many weddings, due to several different grassy areas for ceremonies, and a multitude of rooms that can be conveniently used for wedding receptions. We talked for a bit over the phone, and even though we were unable to meet in person, they were confortable enough to book me almost immediately!
On this visit to The Catamaran, I found the hotel staff to be extremely accommodating. Everyone from the valet attendant to the audio tech to the coordinator was helpful and polite. It truly made for a great visit. I set up my system upstairs and made sure everything looked clean and professional, as usual.
Crystal and Bryan had their ceremony on the Beach South Lawn.
Ceremony Prelude (Guest Seating): Vitamin String Quartet
Ceremony Processional (Bridesmaids): Taylor Swift – Love Story
Ceremony Processional (Bridal March): Wagner – Bridal March from Lohengrin
Ceremony Recessional: Jason Mraz – I’m Yours
After ceremony was over, guests were escorted inside and upstairs to enjoy cocktail hour in the Boardroom while wedding party photos were taken.
Cocktail Hour: Adult Contemporary Hits
Grand Entrance (wedding party): Black Eyed Peas– I Gotta Feeling
Grand Entrance (bride and groom): Usher – Yeah
Immediately after Grand Entrance, we started dinner. During dinner hour, I urged guests to make sure to sign Crystal and Bryan’s special Engravable Picture Frame (Photo Mat). It was made out of a soft metal, and with the use of a special pen (a Signature Engraving Scribe) guests could engrave their heartfelt congratulations onto the edges of the picture frame. I found this to be a really cool addition to the wedding reception, and even partook in the picture frame signing myself!
Note the catchphrase at the bottom… Remember that I mentioned this was a stuntman family? “Marriage… The Most Dangerous Stunt In The World”. (I love it!)
After dinner we went into toasts. After toasts, we began their first dance.
First Dance: Rascal Flatts – Won’t Let You Go

Then parent dances…
Father Daughter Dance: Tim McGraw – My Little Girl
Mother Son Dance: Fleetwood Mac – Landslide
We then went into some open dancing. I didn’t take pics because I’m hoping to get some from Crystal’s father later.
We took a break after a bit and did the cake cutting and the traditional tosses.
Cake Cutting Song: Dixie Cups – Chapel Of Love
Bouquet Toss: Beyonce – Single Ladies
Garter Toss: Def Leppard – Pour Some Sugar On Me
Garter Replacement: Marvin Gaye – Let’s Get It On
We then got the dance floor going again. I’d say the hit genre of the night was current top40, if not just a few month’s back top40.
After the reception was over, I got my souvenir picture with the happy bride. Bryan was taking care of their child so I didn’t get to include him in the picture.
Congratulations to Crystal and Bryan Spangler and their families, and thanks for including me in your wonderful destination wedding at the Catamaran!
